What compelled you to join the Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History?

I had recently moved to Park City in 2016 when I met Sally Elliott, who said her all-volunteer committee’s goal was to save our remaining mining structures before they disappear due to harsh weather, age, and neglect. As Park City started as a mining town, I thought it was important to save as much of our history as possible and joined her committee.

What I enjoy most about the Friends and the Historic Mine Route

  1. Watching the transformation of the mining structures from almost gone forever to saved for the next 50 years.
  2. I have met so many great people volunteering for the Friends, including donors, committee volunteers, contractors, stakeholders, etc.
  3. In 10+ years, we have collaborated with our community stakeholders and spent $5 million on preserving 15 mining structures. The Historic Mine Route is a way to leverage that investment and make our mining history accessible to all while hiking and biking.
