What compelled you to join the Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History?
In 2016, I saw an article in the Park Record about the group just being formed, visited Sally Elliott, and joined the committee.
What I enjoy most about the Friends and the Historic Mine Route
I enjoy working with historic mining structures and get a kick over making repairs to them so they continue to stand. I also like to share information about Park City mining history with others by preparing lectures for the Park City Museum, writing articles for the Park Record’s The Way We Were column, and leading tours of historic mining sites.
About me
I obtained a B.S. in Geology from the University of Wisconsin in 1973 and a M.S. in Geological Engineering from the University of Utah in 1976. I worked summers for Texaco doing petroleum geology. After graduating from the U of U, I worked two years for the State of Utah, Division of Oil, Gas & Mining, involved in environmental regulation of the mining industry. Then I worked seven years doing geotechnical and environmental work throughout the U.S. for Getty Mining Company. I started an environmental consulting company in 1985 doing work for the mining industry until selling the company to Stantec Inc. in 2014. Since moving to Park City in 2009, I’ve done research on the history of the Park City Mining District, joined the Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History in 2016, and became the construction Project Manager for the group’s preservation projects in 2021.
