Out and Back to Empire Canyon from the Museum
Walk uphill from the Museum on Main Street and follow the HMR signs clockwise up Ontario Ridge to the Daly-Judge and Alliance mine sites in Empire Canyon.
Route Overview

The route is well-marked with wayfinding signs that show the official logo of the Park City Historic Mine Route: a stylized mine car filled with silver ore.
This route climbs from the Museum past the Ontario Mine and Mill sites #22–24, then up the Prospect trail to the cluster of historic mining buildings in Empire Canyon (sites #14-21), returning on Ontario Ridge Road.
Using the capability levels for hiking routes established by Park City Mountain Sports Club, this 3.75-mile route is a Semi-moderate hike.
Surface:
Paved road from the Museum to site #22, dirt trail from the top of Prospect Ave past #21, then gravel road to sites #20 to #14.

The Route, Step by Step

Up Main Street to Swede Alley
Historic Mine Route (HMR) wayfinding sign at Swede Alley.Near the top of Main Street, turn left onto Swede Alley, where you’ll see one of the HMR wayfinding signs directing hikers right up the Chambers Neighborhood trail, which ends on Hillside Ave.

The Ontario sites
The Ontario Mine and Mill sites.Turn onto Chambers Avenue to walk south to the intersection of Marsac Avenue. Cross Marsac with care, minding traffic, to see and hear historic stories associated with the Ontario Mine and Mill 23 as well as the Judge Aerial Tram loading station 22 , sites #22–24.

Up Prospect into Empire Canyon
The trail climbs from Prospect Avenue into Empire Canyon.After carefully crossing back over Marsac, follow Chambers Ave to Prospect Avenue where a left turn will take you up the hill to the Prospect Trailhead. You’ll pass by the Daly-Judge Aerial Tram 21 on your way up Prospect trail to the American Flag Mine 20 , John Daly in Empire Canyon 19 , the Daly-Judge Mill 18 , Explosives Magazine 17 , and the Judge Mining and Smelting Co. office 16 .
This section is 2 miles of hiking round trip and should take around 1 and a half hours.

More history, then back to the Museum
The Alliance Watchman's Cabin.For more mining history, a short walk uphill to the right will lead you to the Alliance Mine 15 building and the Alliance Watchman’s Cabin 14 , before returning on Ontario Ridge Road following the HMR wayfinding signs back to the Museum.
